How do I get in touch with the helpdesk?

The Phone number for the European helpdesk is +44 (01483) 737342.

How do I get a log-in and password?

You can get a login and password for ACES by filling out the Online ID Request Form at the Service Desk Home Page.

How do I log on?

You must either have telnet software (On Net), or you must download and install the Astea Desktop software and install it (if it hasn’t already been installed) before you can connect to ACES. When you have the software, double click on the icon that should be on your main computer screen, and when the system prompts you for the user ID and password, be sure to enter them case sensitive.

How do I reset the password?

You will need to contact your network administrator or your help desk to reset the password.

Can I use someone else’s login?

No. This is a class two offense for StorageTek. Under no circumstances can you use another employee’s login. If you have questions about this please consult your area lead.

What will happen when I mis-type my password multiple times?

After a few times it will cancel you out of the session. Your network administrator sets the limit for failed attempts so it may be different for each location. After quitting the program you can restart the emulator and try again. You will not lose your login for mistakes.

Can I change what my Aces login is?

Aces Logins are pre-set and cannot be changed to a different login.

What is required to gain access to ACES software?

The first step is to request a user name and password for UNIX. You can do this by filling out the on line request form on Portal. When you log in, you can select a Service Request and then request an ID. We are currently researching if there is a more direct route to request a login on line. Then you have to get with the System Admin for ACES logins and password.

How would I gain more access?

Network ID administration, or through the helpdesk/online form. .

Do I have to log off to quit ACES?

Yes, this is very critical. Close out of all of the screens, exit out of the application until you see Q-to quit, and then say yes. If you’re deep in a path, just press "1" to get to the main screen. Then you have to hit Q for Quit one last time to log off of UNIX.

What are the minimum system requirements for Aces?

Any PC connected to the network with UNIX telnet capability or Astea’s Desktop can connect to Aces. If keyboard mapping is an issue, or if your system is not set up correctly, contact your system administrator or the help desk.

How do I get a list of verbs?

Ctrl + X pressed simultaneously, then pressing F2, provides a full list of verbs to choose from. Choose the reports menu and you’ll be presented a list of reports that can be activated by highlighting the option and pressing the "Enter" key. If you do not have access to a verb, you have to contact your system administrator to gain access.

What are the short cuts?

The standard function keys are as follows:

"/" will allow you to jump to a key path, and tab to do a keyword search. You have to do this from a menu screen, it won’t work from an entry screen.

Is there a chart of shortcuts?

Work in progress.

How many reports are there in Aces? Is there a complete list?

There are well over 300 reports that come with the standard Aces program. The best way to find lists of reports is to go to the look-up screen (‘/’ at a menu prompt, then ‘tab’ to the keyword search screen) and type in the word "Report", and then another keyword to narrow the search. If you wanted to find how many widget reports there are to choose from, for instance, you would type in "widget report". This will provide the report names, and jump paths, for any report featuring the word "widget" in the title. Another way to get abbreviated lists of reports is as follows: Each menu path in ACES has a "Reports Menu" option (if there are available reports for those sections) which will list all of the reports pertaining to that area, be it "Inventory", "Shipping", "Orders", et cetera.

Can I cancel before something is saved?

F9 is the only proper way to back out of any screen or any entry field. The Escape Key will not work, and neither will the Backspace key. Once a line has been entered in some transactions, you cannot undo the change. This is an On Line, real time order entry system. Please refer to your training manuals or your area expert in the case that a line is entered in error and needs to be canceled from the system.

Are there help screens available for assistance?

No, there is a screen prompt which appears at the bottom of the screen that provides a brief entry description, and pressing the F2 key will provide a lookup window.

Is the application Case Sensitive?

The application will store anything you type in the case that it is typed in, but there are no case requirements on entry fields. When you log in to UNIX, however, you must use lower case characters.

How can I get computer training?

We’re currently researching the possibility of distributing Computer Based Training, and if we are able to arrange a distribution point we will post it on the web site.

Are there quick reference guides?

There are User Guides in the user documents in the Exchange shared folders: Public Folders\All Public Folders\StorageTek\Icoa Aces\ICOA ACES - Training Documentation,.

Can I print a screen?

This is an emulator dependent function. Please contact your help desk for aid in setting up the emulator so that screen prints are possible. The only other option would be to press ALT + Print Scrn, then paste the saved image of your computer screen into a graphics program.

How do I run a report in ACES and direct the output to the desired device?

Go to the Reports Menu option within the area you wish to print a report from and choose the report you wish to run. You will be prompted to enter values for several parameters like Date Ranges and Order numbers et cetera. One of the parameters will be "Device", which refers to the output device (be it a terminal, printer, or file). If the default device is not the one you wish to use for this report, clear the field via pressing F8, and then press F2 to obtain a list of valid output device options. The new output device will appear in the Device field once you highlight it and select it by pressing the "Enter" key.

How can I print a report to a file?

When prompted for the report parameter values, change the default setting of the Device parameter by selecting the word "file" (see above). The report will be printed to a file on the "/tmp" directory with the filename comprised of the first letters of your ACES login ID and four numbers generated by the UNIX terminal. For instance, if your login for ACES is V654321, your report would create a file named "V654321xxxx" where the x’s are the UNIX generated process number. Each file will have a unique name, so you won’t risk overwriting a report by printing another one.

What happens if my invoice didn’t print when it should have?

Call your EIS or help desk support contact. The Jetforms server may need to be booted.

Can I initiate and use multiple sessions of Aces?

Yes, but if you decide to operate multiple sessions, it can cause user initiated system errors if processes are not strictly followed between the multiple sessions. There are also a finite number of concurrent licenses that can be in use. Keeping a single emulator window operating helps StorageTek maintain the licenses necessary to run the software.

Cut and paste.

CTRL-C does NOT Cut for pasting purposes. The cut and paste functionality is dependent upon your system setup. Aces can support copying from screen to screen through emulator buttons. If you wish to have your emulator set up so that it can handle cutting and pasting, please contact your help desk.

How do you ask for an enhancement or initiate a change request?

The first step at this time is to start a Remedy Trouble Ticket as a Severity 4 defect, explaining what it is you would like customized. You would initiate a remedy ticket by contacting the help desk.
