Protecting Data This Swedish medium-sized enterprise owns and operates four ski facilities in Sweden and Norway, including Scandinavia’s largest resort near Sälen (108 slopes and 77 lifts). In fact, the company is so successful in its native country that it whisks up 33 percent of the Scandinavian market share. That’s 3.2 million ski visits and over 25,000 ski lodge bookings a year. And all that white gold creates an avalanche of green—the equivalent of USD 44.8 million (SEK 326M) for the 2002/2003 ski season alone. One of IT Administrator Anders Beronius’ goals is to keep the revenue snowfall going. When the time came to protect the company’s lucrative online and offline bookings business, he turned to local value added retailer Inserve. Given Beronius’ stringent criteria, Inserve recommended StorageTek for SkiStar’s backup, archiving and disaster recovery objectives.

Solutions
Skistar operates a shared Oracle booking database between two of its facilities running on a Sunkluster. The company deployed a StorageTek L20 tape library to backup and archive data to support business continuity and recover data if needed. Initially, the L20 was installed with 10 LTO tape drives but was upgraded to 20 as the company grew.
