Protecting Data
The London Borough of Merton delivers public services to its 190,000 citizens. These range from business to education to housing and social services. Its business services alone impact over 7,500 local businesses that provide over 70,000 jobs in the community.

The IT department was charged with maintaining and expanding multiple computer installations that had grown out of project-by-project and department-by-department initiatives. This led to a proliferation of different operating systems and servers, each with its own dedicated disk storage system.

Solutions
The Borough worked with StorageTek and TriSys to deploy a SAN utilizing StorageTek D-series disk systems for agency data storage. As data is backed up and ages, it is migrated to tape utilizing an L700e tape library with LT02 tape drives implementing an information lifecycle approach.

Business benefits
• Enabled storage consolidation projects that will save US $1.8 million
• Backup windows cut by 45% from 60 hours to 33 hours
• Server recovery time reduced to two hours to enable same day business continuity of service delivery
