History of Vulcan in Australia

Vulcan seems to have started in Australia in the early 1950's. One of their first products was the Vulcan Conray electric radiator. They also made Chef stoves and ovens.

In 1962, oil for home heating seemingly quite suddenly became very popular.  Vulcan made thousands if not millions of oil heaters, that were installed in most new house builds in the 60's and 70's.

It would appear the oil/fuel crises of the 1970's put a very quick end to oil heating, as people deemed the cost of oil too high. An oil to gas conversion kit was manufactured and sold by Dean Martin Industries, so you could convert your oil heater to gas, without buying a new heater.

Vulcan at some point was sold off to Rheem (Vulcan hot water heaters), and to Bonaire (Vulcan heating).

There is an interesting newspaper article scan here from The Age newspaper of 5th July, 1968 about Vulcan and it's history.
